"Michigan Stands Together." That was the headline underlined in Michigan Governor, Gretchen Whitmer's message regarding the Oxford High School shooting.

"For Hana, Tate, Madisyn, and their families. For the entire Oxford community." The governor appeared on social media platforms to speak to the hearts of Michiganders.

Later she added, "And for Justin and his family. Please keep these families in your hearts."

Four people were killed and seven were injured in Tuesday's shooting at Oxford High School in Oakland County making it the deadliest U.S. K-12 school shooting since 2018.

The politician appeared clearly affected by the tragedy. She called the incident "horrific" and called on Michiganders to come together. She asked for everyone to "wrap our arms around the town". She acknowledged the unimaginable pain and heartbreak of the community.

She went on to say that we need to build a state where no one is afraid to go to school or work or a house of worship.

She thanked the first responders and medical professionals still helping those in the hospital. Whitmer then stated that her heart was with the parents of the victims.

Whitmer acknowledged that this holiday season will be sadly different for the families in Oxford. She asked for all Michiganders to be there for the community of Oxford, "not only in our thoughts and prayers but in our actions."

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has ordered U.S. and Michigan flags within the State Capitol Complex and upon all public buildings and grounds across the State of Michigan to be lowered to half-staff immediately until further notice to honor and remember the victims of the shooting at Oxford High School in Oakland County.

Yahoo news reports that in Michigan, 10 shootings causing injury or death have taken place at K-12 schools since 2014. The 15-year-old high school student's shooting spree on Tuesday was the most lethal.
