Is There a Better Time To Travel on This Memorial Day Weekend?
We're all hearing that this weekend, Memorial Day weekend, will probably be the busiest travel weekend in a long time. AAA is estimating that over 43 million of us will be traveling, and of that number over 38 million will be on the road!
The good news is that all 38 millions will not be on Michigan roads. The bad news is that thousands of those travelers will be, and I'll be one of them. Yikes. Holy grid lock!
Fox17 reported that all of us traveling will be near the record for Memorial Day when 44 million folks were traveling in 2005.
So, will there be any relief in driving this coming weekend, or should I expect a possible 30 mile per hour road trip all weekend long with lots of back ups?
HOLIDAY TRAVEL GRID LOCK
IS THERE A BEST TIME TO TRAVEL?
Here is what the "experts" are saying. They think we should try to begin early tomorrow, Thursday, I'm up for that, and wish I could, or leave Friday before 11 am.
WHAT ABOUT COMING HOME?
Again, the "experts" say leave before 1 PM or after 7 PM either Sunday or Monday.
Okay, we're on the road, using up a bunch of gas so how much are we going to be paying?
HOW MUCH AT THE PUMP?
Here is West Michigan GasBuddy.com says gas prices are a little lower right now compared to other spots in the state. Our average is about $3.42 in Kent County, and $3.44 in Ottawa County, but you can find it even cheaper at some Kent County locations!
But, as always, you'll pay more when going "up north."
Actually, here is some good news because GasBuddy says they think gas prices this summer will stay lower than they have been in the past.
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy says:
"Gas prices over the next few months will stay far under record levels and should continue trending lower as we get closer to July 4."
Hope you all have a happy and safe Memorial Day Weekend!
