Meijer Gardens Parking Beef: Who’s Right?

A video posted to TikTok shows a minor parking lot beef at Meijer Gardens. Who’s right? Who’s wrong? Is there an unwritten law?

The Argument Was About ‘Holding A Parking Spot’

A man was standing in a parking spot, preventing others from using it Tuesday afternoon. This incensed a couple who needed a spot, and they asked him to move.

He didn’t want to at first, saying he was holding the spot for a friend.

After a brief and relatively mild argument (compared to some we’ve seen on TikTok lately) the man holding the spot finally relented, although it wasn’t without the standard, ‘I’m video recording your license plate number’ crappity crap.

No Need For The Racial Hashtag

While the poster decided to get racial over the beef, with the #whitepeople hash tag, I heard no racial overtones in the argument.

And to be honest, this is something I’ve seen many times at public parking lots throughout the country, involving people of all races.

People attempting to hold parking spaces for others has been fairly common practice as long as people have been parking, but it is rarely, if ever, allowed by the parking lot owner. Security will usually side with the car trying to get into the spot then the guy holding it.

That being said, if parking spots are plenty, sometimes I’ve looked the other way at people “holding”. My attitude sometimes is just “whatever”, they want to be close to their friends for a little pre-gaming, so why not?

So What Say You?

Most of the commenters to a Reddit post seemed to say, ‘this is making a big deal over nothing.’ And that maybe it was simply two idiots arguing.
