Once again this year, the city of Grand Rapids is looking for teens and young adults who would like a job this summer as they realize that young people sometimes have a hard time to find a worthwhile and productine job.

This Grand Rapids program is a 6-week paid summer job with the GRow1000 program.

This is so worthwhile because the city is offering 120 hours of work at $13-$15 an hour to young professionals looking to develop their skills. The experience promises real-world experience in how businesses truly operate. This would make a great summer job.

You must be between the ages 15 and 24 as of June 12, this year, live in the city of Grand Rapids and be eligible to work in the U.S.

This program really launched the summer of 2020 in response to the global COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing racial and economic disparities in the city. Mark Washington, City Manager, saw the need and asked business and community leaders to help by employing 1,000 young people during the summer. And over the last two summers, the GRow1000 program has placed over 800 youth in meaningful jobs with area businesses, nonprofit organizations, higher education institutions and government.

This year the program has grown even more so that they have added GRow Further Fridays. These are weekly sessions that will help everyone get a deeper understanding of everything from public speaking, financial literacy, and how to foster a growth mindset.

In the past three years the program has worked so well that it has already produced a spin-off; GRow1000 Academy that will promote long-term employment opportunities for people ages 18-24.
