Tree Impales Truck During Michigan’s 30th Tornado of 2025
Over the weekend, Michigan got hit with another round of severe weather. Heavy thunderstorms, torrential downpours, hail, and strong winds hit areas of the state on Saturday (7-26-2025).
Michigan's 30th Tornado Touchdown of 2025 Confirmed
Saturday also marked the 30th tornado to hit Michigan this year. It only registered as an EF-1, the weakest rating on the Enhanced Fujita Scale. But that doesn't mean it didn't do significant damage when it was on the ground.
Yesterday, the National Weather Service confirmed that the twister touched down in Deckerville, located in the Thumb's Sanilac County. According to the NWS investigation, the tornado was on the ground for a mile and a half, clocked speeds at over 95 miles per hour, and cut a path of damage 100 yards wide—the length of a football field.
EF-1 Tornado Damage Details
Despite the fact that this was a weak system considering the EF scale can go as high as a 5, this tornado caused significant damage. It actually snapped the top off a pine tree and sent it flying through the window of a semi-truck. The survey report stated:
As the tornado moved east, tree damage was noted on either side of Maple Grove Road. Numerous large tree limbs were snapped and carried 50 to 100 yards to the east and northeast. The top of a large pine tree was torn off a nearby tree and impaled a semi-truck. A few vehicles were picked up by the tornado, moved about 15 to 20 yards, and pivoted by about 180 degrees.
Lack of Tornado Warning?
Local media reports that a Tornado Warning was not issued prior to the twister's touchdown, but a Special Weather Statement indicating that strong thunderstorms were approaching was issued by the National Weather Service.
