According to Michigan Auto Law, nearly one-third of all fatal crashes in Michigan occur at intersections. The biggest causes are painfully familiar: running red lights, ignoring stop and yield signs, failing to yield, improper left turns, speeding, distracted driving, and impaired driving. Add in heavy traffic, freeway access, and busy shopping districts, and it's a recipe for potential chaos.
How Michigan Drivers Can Avoid an Intersection Crash
Slow down before the intersection, leave room between vehicles, use your turn signal, check for pedestrians, and look both ways even when you've got a green light. A green light gives you the right of way. It does not create an invisible force field.

Most importantly, put the phone down and expect somebody else to make a terrible decision. I'm sure you're a great driver, but somewhere nearby, someone's eating breakfast, scrolling social media, doing their taxes, and getting by on five minutes of sleep. Defensive driving means spotting that person before they crash into you.
