Value City Furniture Going Out of Business
And, another one bites the dust.
Yes, another furniture store is going out of business, and ironically in the old Art Van store on 28th street that also went out of business. It's crazy!
Agreed, the furniture retail business is a tough one, but since Art Van folded, both on 28th street and Alpine Avenue, and across the state, everything that has gone into those two Grand Rapids locations has been in trouble in no time.
I do kind of miss all the Art Van ads that ran in newspaper and radio and television. They always had sales like never before, never to be repeated with unbelievable discounts.....every week! Don't pay for one full year! How did they do it?
Obviously not very well since they had to file for bankruptcy.

I did buy a sectional set from Art Van several years ago. I got a good price along with tables and was happy with it. It is long gone now.
Value City seems to be a different story as I read so many comments from disgruntled customers on Reddit.com/gr.
Some folks think that Value City was a rebrand of Art Van, but who knows. Value City was across the street on 28th street before Art Van went out of business, and then moved into the Art Van building when they closed. Hmmm! A Coincidence?
It was always an experience shopping either at Art Van or Value City. Sales people were taught to be aggressive. They would pick you up at the door and follow you all over the store. I swear they would have followed you into the bathroom if they could. They never wanted you to walk out of the store without something.
Such a deal I can make for you! NOT!
