The scenarios that you see on TV and in movies are often things that you watch and think, "That probably doesn't ever happen to real people." But a Michigan man survived something this week that I saw on TV when I was a kid, and had nightmares about for years.

Michigan Man Rescued From Grain Silo

On Thursday, January 8, 2026, the Ingham County Sheriff's Office received a call that a man had become trapped in a grain silo in White Oak Township, Michigan. White Oak Township is located approximately 30 miles southeast of Lansing.

The team from Northeast Ingham Emergency Service Authority (NIESA) was called to assist with rescuing the 72-year-old.

NIESA was able to successfully rescue the man from the silo with the help of some specialized equipment that they say was donated by "The Andersons".

The equipment and the process look complicated, but I'm thankful that they were able to get him out safely.

Rescue: 911's 'Feed Bin Boy' Episode

Growing up, I watched a lot of episodes of the docudrama TV show Rescue:911. The show aired on CBS from 1989 until 1996, and then was briefly resurrected for one season in 2004. I distinctly remember having nightmares about being buried alive in grain after watching season 1, episode 8 of the show. One of the reenactments during that episode, which aired on October 24, 1989, was of a two-year-old boy who walked into a grain bin intending to help his mother, only to be swallowed up by the grain. My seven-year-old self, who spent a lot of time on a farm in those days, vowed never to go near a grain silo again.

Does anyone else remember this? Did it give you nightmares?!?
