
Residents Urged to Shelter in Place as Police Hunt Armed Suspect in Mears
UPDATE (6:40PM): The shelter in place has been lifted. According to MSP, Mr. Stapel was fatally wounded during the police response.
UPDATE (3:40PM): MSP has released an updated photo of the suspect and say he was last seen wearing a gray shirt and blue jeans.
Officers with the Michigan State Police are asking residents in Mears to shelter in place while they search for a shooting suspect.

According to a post on X by the Michigan State Police - Sixth District, police are searching for 59-year-old Don Albert Stapel, Jr. They believe that Mr. Stapel is armed and may be in the woods in the area.
Police are currently searching in the area of the 7500 block of Fox Road in Mears.
Police ask anyone who sees him to please call 911 immediately.
