If you’ve recently bought a cooling gel pad to keep your baby comfortable in their stroller or car seat, it’s time to double-check the brand.

A popular product sold at Walmart stores in Michigan and online has just been recalled after reports that it can actually burn children instead of keeping them cool.

The Hoovy Cooling Gel Insert Pads for Car Seats and Strollers are being pulled from shelves after at least one child suffered second-degree burns from using the product.

Instead of providing relief, the gel pads can heat up if left in the sun or a hot car, creating a dangerous burn hazard for young children. (What a scary thought!)

The recall, was announced earlier this week on September 25, 2025, affects about 20,000 units sold at Walmart.com and other retailers. Families who purchased the pads are advised to stop using them immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund.

Unfortunately, this wasn’t the only recall announced this week.

Walmart also confirmed that more than 1.2 million Oster French Door Countertop Ovens are being recalled after reports that the doors can unexpectedly close during use, posing yet another burn risk to consumers.

Unlike the cooling pads, these ovens are eligible for repair.

Walmart issued a statement saying they’re committed to customer safety and that recalled products are quickly blocked from sale and removed from stores. Still, for parents who thought they were buying something to protect their children, the news is alarming.

If you purchased a Hoovy cooling gel insert pad, don’t wait! Take it out of your baby’s stroller or car seat right away and request your refund. Keeping your child safe sometimes means rethinking the products we trust most.
