I love my job, but that doesn't mean I don't get the Sunday Scaries.

I think about all the things I have to get done in the coming week at work and around the house.

That's why whenever I can hang out with my friends and enjoy some adult beverages, I jump at the chance.

Now that the weather is warmer and the sun is starting to shine, I'm trying to spend as much time outside as possible in someone's backyard or at an outdoor patio.

Thankfully, in Kent County where I live, there are no laws banning the sale of alcohol on Sundays. But there is one county in Michigan that still has a Sunday ban.

The One County In Michigan That Still Bans Booze Sales On Sundays

Hillsdale County is the only remaining county in Michigan with a "blue law" that bans the sale of spirits and mixed drinks at bars and restaurants on Sundays, specifically from 7 a.m. Sunday to 2 a.m. Monday.

However, the sale of alcoholic beverages for off-premises consumption (take-home) is allowed on Sundays.

Michigan Lawmakers Want to Remove The Ban

Two State Representatives Jennifer Wortz and Senator Joe Bellino have introduced legislation to simplify the process for Hillsdale County voters to repeal this ban.

Proposed bills (House Bill 4398 and Senate Bill 264) will try and make it easier to put a repeal measure on the ballot.

This includes reducing the required signatures for a ballot measure and clarifying the ballot language.

Why Should The Ban Be Lifted?

A big reason people want the ban to be lifted is because currently local businesses can't sell liquor and mixed drinks while neighboring counties and Indiana can.

If people choose to go to those places to get what they want then the places that can are going to lose money by not getting those customers.
