Michigan Man Helping Out The Homeless With Free Haircuts
A lot of people see a need and wish they could help out and do something.
Then there are people like Chris McCoy of Grand Rapids who saw a need for the homeless in Grand Rapids and decided he would do something to help out.
Michigan Man Helping Out The Homeless With Free Haircuts
Chris McCoy, a 23-year-old Grand Rapids native, has taken it upon himself to offer free haircuts to individuals experiencing homelessness in Heartside Park.
His initiative, which he started just two months ago, has already made a significant impact, with over 100 haircuts given to those in need.
McCoy's journey began with a simple homemade sign that read "Free Haircuts."
He set up shop in Heartside Park, a known gathering place for the homeless community.
Within moments of displaying his sign, he found himself surrounded by people eager for a fresh hair cut.
You'll find McCoy every Thursday at Heartside park from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The thing is McCoy is not a professional licensed barber.
McCoy honed his skills through YouTube tutorials over the past year and a half.
Elrico Brooks, one of the many who have benefited from McCoy's generosity, expressed that these haircuts provide more than just a clean look; they restore dignity and self-worth.
“People don't have to charge something to be kind from your heart.”
To further his mission, McCoy founded a non-profit organization called The Rebirth.
This initiative aims to reach out to those often overlooked by society.
I love what this young man is doing and I hope he keeps up the great work.
Another amazing Grand Rapids non-profit that helps the homeless at Heartside park is called Grand Rapids Neighbors for Neighbors
