8 Weird and Pointless Laws That Are Still On The Books in Michigan
Most laws are created to help keep things civil and safe. We get together or elect someone to make a set of rules that we all agree to follow in order to live in some sort of peaceful society.
According to the Oxford Dictionary a law is "the system of rules which a particular country or community recognizes as regulating the actions of its members and which it may enforce by the imposition of penalties."
But as you're probably already well aware, there are a lot of laws out there that are frivolous, hurtful or just plain pointless. And while Michigan is working hard to get rid of those laws on our books, some of them still remain.
We may not always agree on all of our laws, especially those that may hurt or hinder others in hindsight. That's why we always have the option to amend or get rid of them. But sometimes, those laws just stay on the books because they're so pointless or harmless that we forget that they exist.
I was scrolling on instagram the other day, and I saw a video that went viral that pointed out some of Michigan's most ridiculous and antiquated laws that are still on the books. I looked them all up, and they're real. Are they going to hurt someone? No. But are they so out of date we basically ignore them? Absolutely.
