Perhaps the most unexpected addition was the announcement of a new 8,500-seat soccer stadium. The Amway Stadium is expected to debut in 2027. However, the announcement of the team was missing something important: a name. So let's brainstorm a couple of potential names for West Michigan's new team.

Michigan's Soccer Past

According to Grand Action 2.0, a non-profit committee whose goal is to develop various areas in Grand Rapids, Amway Stadium will be an 8.2-acre stadium site and will be home to a professional soccer team playing in the MLS Next Pro league, the third-highest professional soccer league in the US.

Before this team, which is going by West Michigan Soccer until an official name is chosen, Grand Rapids had a semi-professional team. Grand Rapids Football Club (GRFC) ran from 2014 to 2021 before closing due to COVID-19 and a lack of a home venue. Viewership peaked at 6,912 in 2016.
