Tulip Time Ends This Weekend – Here’s How You Can Take Tulips Home With You
You know it's spring in West Michigan when you see the millions of tulips blooming in Holland for the annual Tulip Time Festival. The festival usually runs for the first 10 days of May, and then the tulips sadly begin to die. This is the final weekend for the festival, but if you're not ready to bid the beautiful flowers farewell, you may not have to.

What most people don't know is that there is a way to purchase tulip bulbs for yourself after the festival is over. No, it's not stealing - it's a Holland-sponsored event. Here are the details.
Holland in Bloom Annual Tulip Dig 2026
Just like Tulip Time happens every year, so does the annual Tulip Dig event that follows it. Each year, people interested in bringing home a tulip bulb for themselves are invited to bring a shovel and bucket to dig up tulip bulbs to plant in their own garden. This year, the dig is taking place on Saturday, May 30th, at 9 a.m. at Centennial Park and Windmill Island Gardens. It will cost $10 per 5-gallon bucket, cash only.

You'll want to get there right at 9 because the bulbs are on a first-come, first-served basis. If you're at Tulip Time this weekend, and a tulip speaks to you, remember where that tulip is because you can come back and get it for yourself, so long as you bring the tools to get it.
The event is organized by Holland in Bloom. You can learn more on their Facebook page, view how the flowers are looking in real time on the Tulip Tracker, and read the Frequently Asked Questions about the event here.
