When it comes to excellent Michigan restaurants, often it's the usual suspects getting shout outs. Places like Prime + Proper in Detroit, Leo's in Grand Rapids, and the English Inn in Eaton Rapids have received multiple accolades from national publications.
This time though, a lesser known Michigan eatery is being honored.

Yelp's editors say their Top 100 U.S. Restaurants 2025 features the best cuisine found in "some of the most unexpected places."
To determine the ranking, Yelp’s team starts by assessing the data generated from community submissions. They take into account both the rating and the volume of the reviews, while also considering the overall restaurant activity in each business’s area. Community managers then narrow down the candidate restaurants to create a list "as quirky, interesting, and unique as the Yelp community itself."

With a 4.6 star rating on Yelp, reviewers describe the authentic Mexican restaurant as a "hidden gem" with some of the best tacos they've eaten.
In addition to tacos and complimentary homemade chips and salsa, you'll find quesadillas, fajitas, tostadas, tortas, burritos, enchiladas, chimichangas, gorditas, and more. Using family recipes and traditions four brothers "each with a deep passion for authentic Mexican cuisine, came together to fulfill a shared dream of opening their own restaurant."
Taqueria El Compa is located at 30045 Utica Road. The restaurant is open Monday through Thursday 11a.m. to 9p.m., Friday and Saturday 11a.m. to 10p.m., closed Sundays.
