Are Michigan Red Robin Restaurants at Risk of Closing in 2026?
It continues to be a tough time for national chain restaurants. In recent years, we've seen lots of restaurants close locations in Michigan, including Fazoli's, TGI Fridays, and Outback. Could we soon be saying goodbye to Red Robin?

The burger chain got its start in Seattle in 1969. At its peak in the mid-2010s, it had more than 550 locations nationwide. At the end of 2025, there were 475 Red Robin restaurants in the U.S., including 385 company-owned and 90 run by franchisees, according to the company's website.
Red Robin Could Potentially Close 20 Restaurants in 2026
Restaurant Business Online reports that in a recent earnings call, CEO David Pace said the chain has seen some early wins in 2026, like more customers, menu updates, and smoother operations.
But he also mentioned the possibility of closing up to 20 corporately-owned stores this year.

If this sounds familiar, that’s because around this time last year, similar reports surfaced. Red Robin did end up closing more than 20 restaurants nationwide in 2025, however, none were in Michigan.
So far, no specific locations have been identified for potential closures this year.
A spokesperson for Red Robin said the up to 20 locations discussed are potential closures, not confirmed ones, and would involve only corporate-owned restaurants. All 19 Michigan locations are franchise-operated and are not part of that discussion.

While the potential for any closures is concerning, Red Robin seems to be betting on updated strategies and a refreshed menu, including six meal options from $9.99 to $16.99 with bottomless fries and a drink, to keep customers coming back.
For now, Michigan burger fans can breathe easy, but it’s worth keeping an eye on how this chain fares in 2026.
