It started as an attempt to pull over a wanted suspect. It ended with a high-speed police chase, spike strips, and a car crashing into a pond in the Grand Rapids area.

How the Police Chase in Kentwood Started
According to video released by the Kent County Sheriff’s Office, this all unfolded on April 7. Deputies were trying to stop a 39-year-old Kent County man wanted in connection to a violent incident the night before, including suspicion of felony assault.

Officials say he was considered “dangerous” and “uncooperative.”
When deputies spotted him in a vehicle, he took off. As he drove under an overpass, spike strips were deployed, but it still didn’t stop him.
The Moment the Car Went Into the Pond
Dash cam footage shows a fast-moving pursuit through stretches of road under clear blue skies, the kind of calm backdrop that sharply contrasts what happens next.
Suddenly, a splash. The suspect’s vehicle veers off the roadway and plunges into a pond.
Drone footage captures the aftermath from above. Moments later, the driver climbs out of the water with his hands up.

Deputies move in quickly, giving commands before taking him into custody.
What Deputies Found Inside the Vehicle
Investigators say multiple firearms, some loaded, along with methamphetamine were found inside the car.
The suspect was taken to the Kent County Jail and is facing a long list of charges, including possession of meth, carrying a concealed weapon, being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm, fleeing and eluding, multiple assault charges, domestic violence, and property destruction.

According to WWMT, the chase ended near Celebration Cinema in Kentwood along Eastport Drive.
