Michigan Has 2 Of The “Most Picturesque Small Towns” In The US
Reading the headline of this you may be thinking "Only two towns were among the most picturesque?" and to that, I agree with you. There are places all around Michigan that are naturally stunning. All of the UP, the coastline beaches and dunes, the open rural drives. There is something for everyone here.
So thankfully, the two towns that made it on NC Travel Guide's "120 Most Picturesque Small Towns in America", are two towns that no one will argue shouldn't be on this list: Holland and Saugatuck.
#33 - Holland
If you made your way over to Holland anytime this month to witness Tulip Time, you probably understand why Holland ranks so high on this list. Downtown Holland is unique in its blending of Historic Holland while embracing the modern amenities and activities people enjoy today. It really is a beautiful place to rent a bike and ride around on a summer day. Visit one of its many beaches, watch the sunset, or do some shopping.
It isn't just beautiful this time of year, but all four seasons offer something unique to enjoy.
#107 Saugatuck
If you love the outdoors, then you'll love Saugatuck. Another small town along Lake Michigan's coastline, Saugatuck is a quaint but thriving town that has a blossoming art and food scene that will make anyone's visit a feast for their eyes and bellies. On top of being visually stunning, the town is uniquely situated next to the dunes and offers rides through Saugatuck Dunes State Park.
The best part about these small towns being named on the list is that they are just 12 miles away from each other, so you could hit both in one day for a truly memorable day. If you're looking for other places to visit around Michigan, check out these bucket list locations.
