Michigan sports teams have been on a rollercoaster of success for the last few years. While one team might be on fire *cough* Detroit Lions, another could have a historic low (looking at you, Pistons). This season, however, has been a turning point for Michigan. In 2025, our sports teams are on fire and haven't dropped a game this year. Yes, I know it's been a week, but there's plenty to be excited about.

Detroit Lions

Everyone in the country is aware of the Detroit Lions and their record-breaking season. For the first time in franchise history, the Lions have more than 12 wins in a season, finishing the regular season 15-2 and 8-0 on the road. They clinched the #1 seed in the NFC and a first-round bye. Dan Campbell is full from eating kneecaps.

On January 5th, The Lions routed the Vikings 31-9 in a highly anticipated matchup between the two teams who both had records of 14-2. The rest of the Lions games this year will be high-stakes playoff matches. Remaining undefeated would mean the Lions would be Super Bowl Champions.

Detroit Pistons

The Pistons being undefeated so far is the most surprising team to be undefeated so far this year, given that last season the team went 17-65 and had the franchise's work record in its history. Already this year, the team has 18 wins and is on a 4-game winning streak, hot off a comeback win against the Trailblazers. It's the first time since New Year's Day 2019 the team has been .500 (currently 18-18).

Detroit Red Wings

The Red Wings are also on a four-game winning streak, having won their two games in 2025 on the 2nd and the 4th. The winning streak could end tonight as they play the Ottawa Senators at 7 pm. But considering this team hasn't made the playoffs since 2016, this win streak could be a good sign.

Michigan State Spartans

Michigan State's athletics are playing some top-tier sports so far. Both Men's and Women's basketball teams are ranked and rocking a 12-2 record, the best Men's season since 2019. Men's hockey won a tough double-header against Wisconsin on the 2nd and 4th, sporting an impressive 17-2-1 record. Now, this is where things get a bit complicated. The Men's basketball team is undefeated in 2025 with an 11-3 record and tied for first in the Big 10 with Michigan State. A strong start for Dusty May's first year as coach.

However, this is where the Michigan sports winning streak comes to an end. The Women's basketball team has had a very difficult schedule, losing their last two games against #4 USC and #1 UCLA. The Wolverines Hockey team, also, has experienced a loss in 2025. They are 12-6 and 1-1 in 2025, losing a match against Ohio State.

Even with these two losses, having this many sports teams in Michigan playing this well at once is a pretty exciting and unique time for Michigan sports fans.
