Michigan’s First Jack in the Box Restaurant in 40 Years Opens This May
After more than four decades, Jack in the Box is officially making its return to Michigan. And if you have been waiting to try it without leaving the state, the first opening is finally on the horizon!
Jack in the Box Is Coming Back to Michigan
More than two years ago, we told you that Jack in the Box was planning to open five new restaurants in West Michigan. The expansion comes through a development agreement with franchisee Niraj Patel, a West Michigan hotel owner who operates multiple properties throughout the region.
First Michigan Jack in the Boxes Planned for West Michigan
At the time, Patel revealed plans to bring five locations to southwest and south-central Michigan over the next several years. The targeted areas include Kent, Kalamazoo, and Calhoun counties. Each restaurant could bring roughly 40 to 50 jobs to its community while giving West Michigan another fast food option.

Now we finally know where the first one will open and approximately when.
Battle Creek Opening Details
According to the company’s website, the first Michigan Jack in the Box is expected to open in May 2026 in Battle Creek at 2588 Capital Ave SW.
If you have never tried Jack in the Box, the chain is known for a menu that pretty much does it all: burgers, chicken sandwiches, tacos, milkshakes, curly fries, and even breakfast items served all day. The new Michigan restaurants will feature dine-in, drive-thru, and mobile ordering options, and they’ll be open 24 hours a day.

Jack in the Box Eventually Opening Detroit Locations Too
Jack in the Box actually had a few locations in the Detroit area back in the 1970s, but they had all closed by the 1980s. Now, decades later, the brand is finally coming back.
The Battle Creek restaurant will kick off the Michigan comeback, with additional locations planned in the Detroit metropolitan area and beyond. More restaurants are expected to follow over the next few years as Jack in the Box continues its state rollout.
It’s safe to say fans of the chain, both longtime and newcomers, have reason to get excited. After all this time, Michiganders will soon be able to grab those tacos, curly fries, and late-night snack runs without going too far from home.
