When it comes to charming main streets, Michigan has no shortage of options. Some personal favorites include Saugatuck, Traverse City, and of course, my hometown of South Haven.

One downtown, however, has been drawing national attention for the past few years. It consistently ranks among the most beloved main streets in the country and is once again in the running for top honors.

USA Today and 10Best have launched a new poll asking readers, “Which Main Street is the Best?” A panel of 20 experts selected 20 streets that stand out for their historic charm, vibrant culture, and role as the heart of their communities. Now it is up to the public to vote for the top ten.

That hometown favorite is Howell.

Nestled in Livingston County, Howell’s downtown has been the hub of community life for nearly two centuries. Visitors can stroll Grand River Avenue to explore boutique shops, local eateries, salons, and cultural landmarks like the Howell Opera House. Seasonal events, including the Howell Melon Festival and the Sunday Farmer’s Market, keep the streets lively year-round.
