
Michigan Park in Running for Best Public Square in U.S.
Michigan locations have really been raking in the honors. Just recently, a Michigan spot won "Best Beer City in America", four are in the running for "Best Small Town in the Midwest", and one is vying for "Top Main Street."
Now another Michigan city is competing for "Best Public Square in the U.S."

"What's the nation's best public square is the subject of a new USA Today 10best readers' poll. A panel of experts chose 20 public squares that are "the heartbeats of cities, where culture pulses and people gather."

It's up to a public vote to determine the top ten. The Michigan park in the running took the No. 1 spot last year - and we can vote to make it happen again!
Campus Martius Park in Detroit is vying to be the best public square in the U.S.
A national spotlight was put on the park last year as it hosted the 2024 NFL draft.
Located in the heart of Detroit at the intersection of Woodward Ave. and Michigan Ave., the park was re-established in 2003.
The site is rich in history, as after the Great Fire of 1805, Campus Martius was the focal point of Judge Augustus Woodward's plans to rebuild the city.

It's also the point of origin for the city, which is marked by a medallion embedded in the stone walkway. So seven miles north of it is Seven Mile Road, eight miles north is Eight Mile Road, and so on.
USA Today praises Campus Martius as a place where locals and visitors alike gather to take in the skyline, grab a meal from a food truck, people-watch around the Woodward Fountain, enjoy a concert, or ice skate in the winter.
