We have officially entered the month of December and that means a bunch of winter activities to look forward to.

Ice skating is obviously one of the favorites and this Friday, 12/2, ice skating at Rosa Parks Circle in Downtown Grand Rapids will open for the season!

Ice skating will open in conjunction with the tree lighting ceremony for the Grand Rapids Christmas Tree. On the Facebook event page it says that the ceremony will feature a performance and skating lessons from WMU's synchronized skating team. There will also be a choir performance, different booths and activities,

The ceremony starts at 5 p.m. but the tree lighting will be at 5:30 with Mayor Rosalynn Bliss as the event's emcee. The Blue Bridge will also put on a holiday light show at this time. FREE ice skating will start immediately afterwards and last until 7 p.m. During this time, you can also get pictures taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus. And of course, food!

After Friday, these will be the following ice skating hours:

  • Monday & Tuesday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM
  • Wednesday - Saturday: 11:00 AM - 9:45 PM
  • Sunday: 12:00 PM - 8:45 PM

Ice skating at Rosa Parks Circle will conclude March 5th.

With warmer-than-normal temperatures, it hasn't really felt like winter but MLive says the ice will be monitored carefully this weekend.
