Have you ever done something, gone somewhere, seen something as others would, in your own town. Did you feel somehow, as if you were a tourist? It just happened to me, and it's a unique and interesting feeling.

It was here in Grand Rapids, and my experience was this past weekend at the Meijer Gardens.

For 20 years, the Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park has been a world-wide destination, but, I had never visited the Meijer Gardens as a so-called visitor. I know that sounds strange, but I've hosted, emceed, attended, hundreds of events at the gardens. Luncheons, dinners, celebrations, awards, all have been on my list, but I've never taken the time to see the gardens as hundreds of thousands do each year - as a tourist. Sunday, Kathy and I took the time, and It was wonderful, and I totally felt as if I were a tourist.

There were people from all over the Midwest visiting, and we were two of them.

I hate to admit this, but, WOW, what a gem we have in the Meijer Gardens. I mean, I knew we had this masterpiece in Grand Rapids, but I had never seen it in this way. It really is stunning as a "tourist." The Japanese Gardens, the sculpture park, children's garden and play area, and so much more.

You need to allow plenty of time to see it all because you don't want to rush through, it's that impressive, and we could only take in the immense Japanese Gardens with an added stroll through the children's area. So much more to see on our next visit.

Take the time and enjoy the gardens stunning peace and beauty, because it is one of the fabulous wonders of the world for your entire family.
