How to Donate Your Solar Eclipse Glasses to Students in South America and Asia
The total solar eclipse was fun and we are looking forward to the next one coming to the United States in 2024, but you don't have to wait seven years to put your glasses to good use.
Grand Valley State University is collecting solar eclipse glasses to send to students around the world.
If you were planning to keep the glasses for seven years we all know the odds of remembering where you put them seven years from now are pretty slim so there's no reason not to donate. Best of all, the glasses will be put to good use by schools that would not be able to afford them.
GVSU’s Regional Math and Science Center is collecting eclipse glasses through September 15. The glasses will be sent to schools in South America and Asia through the organization Astronomers Without Borders. South America and Asia will see an eclipse in 2019.
According to the Astronomers Without Borders, GVSU is the only designated collection location in West Michigan for eclipse glasses.
Donate your glasses in Mackinac Hall, room C-1-120, on the Allendale Campus, Monday - Friday, from 8am - 5pm.
