Commuting to work can be a real hassle. With all the construction and loads of traffic, it wears you out. Many people are moving closer to where they work just to cut down on travel time and walking or biking to work. But, hey, you get all hot and sweaty, and when you show up, and you're a mess. Now, there could be help.

I don't know about Grand Rapids, but there is a great place in Grand Haven. It's called Electric Bike Place (powered by MACkite).

The West Michigan Tourist Association says there are some serious benefits to ride an electric bike to work:

1 - No exhaustion or sweat while commuting to work. If the office does not have a shower, the extra assistance is a great asset from feeling sweaty for the remainder of the day.
2 - One can turn off the assistance and still get exercise. When the time clock is punched out, now is the time to crank up the exercise, which can be helpful after a long day sitting in front of a computer.
3- Elimination of the mundane feeling while commuting. When on an electric bike, riders are outside experiencing nature; in fact, riders may even notice more during their commute than when commuting in a car.
4 - No 5:00 p.m. traffic! At most, a few stop lights.
5 - Overall less impact on the car and on the environment. When commuting on an electric bike, riders can save gas money and help reduce their carbon footprint.

There are many electric bikes designed for commuting. Many of these bikes will have long distance batteries and occasionally higher top speeds than typical cruiser models. Some may have suspension for those hard to manage roads and pathways while others may have wider tires to help reduce impact. When choosing a commuter bike, it is always best to consult an electric bike expert to make sure the best bike is chosen for the rider. Thankfully, Electric Bike Place has an entire staff of experts to help answer any questions and to help get riders out on the pathways and experiencing a new way to commute.
