WHY THE HIGHER COST? Is it the tariffs? Yes and no!

Nerd Wallet reports "the U.S. imports beef from a long list of countries, with most of it coming from Brazil, Australia, Canada, Mexico and New Zealand. Some of those imports now face a new 10% tariff."

However, the higher costs are also due to supply and demand according to Business Insider.

The supply of beef cattle is the smallest it has been in decades and with all of us wanting more and more burgers, steaks, briskets, etc., the price simply goes up with a smaller supply.

Seems that since the pandemic, cost for cattle farmers skyrocketed and some either quit, or reduced their herds.

We all have found the higher prices at the grocery store. For example, Meijer has certified angus beef 85/15 ground round at $6.99 a pound.

As for Hot Dogs, the website The Pricer.org says:

"At typical grocery stores, name brand hot dogs like Oscar Mayer average $6 to $9 for an 8-pack. Generic store brands can cost as little as $3 to $5 for 8 dogs. It pays to wait for sales and promotions."
