GVSU Announces $474 Increase to Annual Tuition, $70M Expansion in Grand Rapids

As Grand Rapids sees record growth, GVSU is set to expand its own downtown footprint.

Grand Valley State University has announced plans for a $70 million expansion to the Grand Rapids campus.

GVSU has also announced a $237 per semester increase to tuition.

Both announcements were made at the Board of Trustees meeting on July 14.

The $474 increase to annual tuition brings the annual tuition total to $11,994 for a full-time undergraduate Michigan resident.

The new $70 million building project will add room for the health professions and nursing programs. It will be built at 333 Michigan Ave. next to GVSU's Cook-DeVos Center for Health Sciences and within a block of Raleigh J. Finkelstein Hall which is currently under construction on Lafayette Ave. Construction on the new $70 million project is scheduled to begin in June 2018, with the opening set for May 2021.

Other announcements at Friday's meeting:

• A new master's degree program in Data Science and Analytics was approved. It will be part of the School of Computing and Information Systems and Statistics Department.
• An addition to the Performing Arts Center on the Allendale Campus will be finished in August. The two-story, 47,000-square-foot addition includes a black box theater, two classrooms and three ensemble rooms.
