GRPD needs your help finding the person or persons who tried to abduct a young girl this morning on her way to the bus stop.

It happened around 6:30 am this morning near Logan St. SE and Barth Ave SE.  Police said in their Facebook post that the 14-year-old was walking with her 12-year-old brother when a guy approached them and asked them if they wanted a ride to school. The two kids hesitated and that’s when the guy grabbed the girl by her neck.  A neighbor yelled at the guy and the girl was able to break free, thankfully.

Police say the suspect got out of a dark-colored passenger car that was parked street side. They also describe him as tall and wearing a hooded sweatshirt or jacket.

GRPS sent out an email to their parents warning them of the attempted abduction and reminded parents to talk about stranger danger and the importance of telling an adult what happened with their kids:

Please talk to your child about what they should do if they are ever concerned for their safety at school, at home or in-between. Also, please remind them how important it is to go directly from school (or bus stop) to home (and the reverse) so that we know where they are and can be reassured of their safety.

Police are looking for ANY information that can help them catch this guy.  If you know of anything, call GRPD at 616-456-3604 or Silent Observer at 774-2345.

GRPS also offered parents the option to check out  www.safekids.org or to call their school, for more tips on helping keep your kids safe.
