Great Back-to-School Clothing Bargains This Weekend in Grand Rapids

Back-to-school shopping can wear anyone out.  School supplies, shoes, and clothes.....whew.....I'm tired just thinking about it.

It's tough to get it finished before school starts, and for most, you probably weren't able to get everything completed.

If you're in the "I'm-not-finished-yet" category, I have two, great ideas.  They are mega, gently-used-clothing sales this weekend.  Yep...a bargain hunters dream.

There's the Just Between Friends sale at the Deltaplex  in Walker that runs Thursday through Saturday, and the West Michigan’s Mom's Sale on Saturday at DeVos Place in downtown Grand Rapids.

The "Just Between Friends" event is a massive consignment sale that is organized like a store while the Mom's Sale is more like a giant garage sale with sellers occupying individual booths.

The Just Between Friends sale will have more than 40,000 gently-used items from clothes to outdoor equipment for sale during its three day event. Hours are 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday. Admission is $3 on Thursday, and free on Friday and Saturday.

All the items are organized by size and gender. Buyers pay for all items together at checkout, and organizers accept credit cards along with cash.

The"West Michigan's Mom's Sale" features more than 150 booths and draws foot traffic of more than 3,000 shoppers. The Saturday sale runs 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and admission is free.

Items for sale include baby and children’s clothing through size 16 along with baby gear, toddler furniture and maternity clothing. There's a big-ticket space where cribs and strollers are displayed.

The Grand Rapids pregnancy care center provides resources to families facing unplanned pregnancy, poverty and homelessness, and sellers have the option of donating what isn't sold to the nonprofit.

The event is free to attend, and sellers pay $35 for a 10-by-10 foot display space. One perk to being a seller is that they can pre-shop the sale. Sellers can register online westmichiganmomssale.com.

Deadline for getting a space is Wednesday, September 12.

If you can't make the sales, the good news is that both events return in the spring. Just Between Friends sale will be held in March, and Mom's Sale will be in May.
