Grandville 4th of July Celebration Canceled Due to COVID-19

Grandville's 2020 4th of July Celebration has been canceled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The 51st Annual July 4 Celebration had been scheduled for June 27-July 4, 2020, and usually includes a parade that draws tens of thousands, family friendly events, a 5K race, food and craft vendors, live music, and fireworks.

The City shared in a release the determination was made by the Grandville City Council and Grandville Parks & Recreation Board 4th of July Committee.

They say the very difficult decision was made in the interest of public health.

Factors that lead to the cancellation include "the on-going spread of COVID-19 infection in West Michigan, current Executive Orders with assembly restrictions and social distancing requirements that appear likely to continue into the summer, even if a phased reopening begins soon, and contractual and event planning obligations."

Grandville's Mayor Steve Maas stated: "I am heartbroken over the cancellation. It's an event that my family looks forward to every year."

2020 4th of July Celebration Event Chair Joyce Andriessen added, "It is with great regret that we have to say, 'we look forward to seeing everyone in 2021'."

Grandville's City Council and Event Committee say they are committed to a full celebration in 2021.
