Grand Rapids Losing Another Popular TV Meteorologist
It's been four years of covering everything from blizzards to tornadoes here in West Michigan, but it's time to move on for another local TV personality/Weather Man.
It is good news for him, however. This isn't the case of we're not renewing your contract, or, I can't take it and I'm out of here. 13 ON YOUR SIDE announced that Meteorologist Michael Behrens has been promoted, but out of the market. Michael is moving to TV13's sister station WBNS in Columbus, Ohio.
Holy cow, the TV13 weather department has been hit hard of late.
George Lessons announced he is retiring, although not until the end of the year, and now Michael is moving to another company station.
He joined the 13 ON YOUR SIDE weather team at the start of the pandemic during the spring of 2020. He dove in head first covering the weather for West Michigan from his then home in East Texas, the magic of television, all while still working morning shows for the Tyler, Texas station KYTX CBS 19.
He eventually moved to West Michigan and immediately become a fixture at local parades, events, and schools across our region.
Michael is an award winning meteorologist including two Michigan Association of Broadcasters awards and an EMMY nomination for his story on understanding hail impacts.
What did Michael have to say about his move?
"I am extremely grateful to the communities around West Michigan for welcoming me into their homes and lives over these past four years. I am certainly sad to be leaving this amazing and diverse community, but I am also very excited to continue my career journey with TEGNA and to take on new challenges in Central Ohio. I will never forget the beauty of this region, or the impacts of our wild weather."
Best wishes Michael. West Michigan will miss you!
