Many will remember Big Brother 15 because of the derogatory comments made by multiple Big Brother houseguests.

Big Brother and host Julie Chen tackled the issue head on.

Will the added attention lead to an Emmy nomination?

The 2013 Emmy Awards take place on September 22. This year's nominees for "Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program" are:

  • Ryan Seacrest for American Idol
  • Betty White for Betty White's Off Their Rockers
  • Tom Bergeron for Dancing With The Stars
  • Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn for Project Runway
  • Cat Deeley for So You Think You Can Dance
  • Anthony Bourdain for The Taste

The 2013 award marks only the 6th time an Emmy has been given for "Reality Host". Survivor's Jeff Probst has won 4 of the 5 previous years.

This season of Big Brother will not be eligible until next fall.

Big Brother 15 has drawn a lot of attention because of the hateful language used by some houseguests.  Julie Chen talked about her post-eviction interview with one of those houseguests on David Letterman.  She talked to Letterman about Aaryn Gries:

I had to just put on my journalist hat and play it straight down the middle and read it back, verbatim, her words. ... She did apologize. She seemed dumbfounded by her own words. I do applaud the fact that she said 'I'm sorry if I offended anyone. But then she talked out of the other side of her mouth and she said, 'But.' Any time you apologize and there's a 'but,' to me, it's not a real apology.

Due to the nature of the show, Chen isn't able to ask all the questions she would like. Some questions would reveal too much to houseguests who are going to be on the jury that decides the winner of Big Brother 15.

Once the votes are in on the night of the finale, it's all fair game.

A memorable final show combined with continued discussion of some heavy issues could lead to Chen's first Emmy nomination.

Anyone who has been watching Big Brother from the start will tell you Julie Chen has come a long way as host. Today, you can make a case that Chen is as good as those nominated for the award this year.

Winning an Emmy could prove difficult, but a nomination shouldn't be surprising and might be deserved.
