Normally beach goers would already be hitting the sand at Grand Haven State Park.

This year though, the campground and park won't open until May 13, The Grand Haven Tribune reports.

The reason for the delay is that employees are still working to prepare the park for the summer season.

Matt Shaver, who works at the state park, told The Grand Haven Tribune,

We haven’t had the staff on board to open by April. My district supervisor allowed us ... to get staff on board and do repairs and painting.”

Shaver says there are four years of maintenance items that need to be taken care of and being open now would slow down the workers' ability to get it done.

Grand Haven State Park plans to open May 13 and the season runs through Oct. 6.
