According to the City of Grand Haven, the Ottawa County Department of Public Health will be administering vaccines at open clinics in the Courthouse Parking lot on the corner of Washington and 4th Street during the following times:

  • Tuesday, August 3 1p.m.-4p.m.
  • Thursday, August 5 p.m. -8p.m.
  • Saturday, August 7 9a.m. -2p.m.

City Manager Pat McGinnis said,

“Our younger age brackets are only at 40%, while first shots in the overall population are above 60%. We needed to come up with an idea to encourage the more youthful unvaccinated to drop in for a shot.”

How do they plan to do that? Beer and ice cream.

Local breweries Odd Side Ales, Burzurk Brewing Co, Grand Armory Brewing and Long Road Distillers have each donated several $25 gift cards to be raffled each day to those adults receiving their first vaccine shot at the festival pop up sites.

Those under 21 who are getting a first dose of the vaccine will get a free ice cream certificate from Temptations Ice Cream.

Immunization Supervisor for Ottawa County Public Health, Toni Bulthuis said,

“We want to make getting a COVID vaccine easy and convenient for people, so we are going to the people where they are, whether that is their church, apartment complex, the beach or a festival. The Coast Guard Festival is a perfect setting for us to reach all ages of people to educate about the COVID-19 vaccine for those who have questions, and to vaccinate those who are ready. We will have plenty of vaccine for anyone who wants one.”

Anyone who gets their first shot of the Pfizer vaccine at the festival can can get their second dose at a local pharmacy, the Holland office of the Ottawa County Department of Public Health on Mondays for walk-in clinics between 10:00am and 4:00pm, or they can check with their physician.
