Just as the Mega Millions kept growing and growing and growing a few months and weeks back, The Powerball jackpot continues to grow because there still hasn't been a big winner. Tonight the estimated jackpot will be worth $747 million after no one beat the odds and won the top prize in Saturday night’s drawing.

What were those winning, err, losing numbers? The were 2, 8, 15, 19, 58 and Powerball 10. Oops, no winner!

This turns out to be the ninth largest in U.S. lottery in history and the latest in a string of huge lottery prizes. Some lucky person in Maine won that $1.35 billion Mega Millions prize less than three weeks ago and a California player won a record $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot last November, and now Powerball keeps climbing again.

So, why does it take so long for someone to win one of the huThe jackpots? Easy, because the tough odds offer just a miniscule chance of anyone matching all six numbers and winning the top prize. So, jackpots like Saturday night’s $700 million top prize just keeps rolling over.

When was the last time someone overcame the odds of one in 292.2 million and won the Powerball jackpot? It was November,19, 2022.

If there is a winner tonight, like me, ha ha, I could chose to take the $747 million paid through an annuity over 29 years or I could opt for cash, which for tonight’s drawing would be $403.1 million. I would suffer, of course, but I could deal with that!

By the way, Powerball is played in 45 states, as well as Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
