Family Dollar Closing 1000 Stores. What About Grand Rapids?
The retail business is certainly a tough business to be in right now. Since the Pandemic, the landscape has changed significantly, and I seem to be constantly writing about another store closing or retain chain going out of business.
With prices continuing to rise, although at a more modest rate than last year because inflation is pegged at 2.8% currently, customers are harder to find for retailers due to these higher prices.
You would think that the dollar stores, Dollar Tree and Family Dollar, would thrive because these stores sell at way lower prices. But customers are buying in smaller amounts according to The Street.com. It's not always a good buy if you really do the math, but it does save shoppers money.
Family Dollar, of the dollar store chains, seems to have been affected the most.
Dollar Tree bought Family Dollar back in 2015, but things have sure changed in 10 years and they need to sell Family Dollar at a significant loss. To accomplish this, part of the "sell off" deal is to close over 1000 under performing stores. That is a lot of stores across America.
HOW WILL THIS AFFECT GRAND RAPIDS STORES?
As far as I can tell, only two Michigan stores will close, one in Three Oaks and another in Spring Arbor. You can see the complete Family Dollar Stores closing HERE!

There are many Family Dollar stores around West Michigan and throughout the state, with three in the Greater Grand Rapids Area. So far, they remain open.
