The store, that we told you about in February, is now officially open in the Fifth Third Center at 111 Lyon NW. It adds to the growing shopping options in the heart of the city along with Meijer's Bridge Street Market and Gordon Food Service's "G" store on Michigan.

The store clocks in at about 4800 square feet and is designed with downtown residents in mind with fresh fruits & vegetables, grocery items, cleaning supplies, pet needs, candies and snacks, paper products, electronics, home decor, and health & beauty items. The concept also keeps in mind downtown workers who may be grabbing a quick bite for lunch or dinner with fresh salads and sandwiches to-go.

Dan Nieser, Dollar General’s senior vice president of real estate and development says the concept is one that Dollar General is looking forward to bringing to Grand Rapids:

We are excited for the opportunity to serve downtown communities and city-dwellers with the essentials they need in a convenient, easy-to-shop format through our DGX store. We look forward to the opportunity to serve metropolitan customers in exciting downtown living environments with value and convenience on quality products. Ultimately, we seek to help customers save money on the things they need so they have funds left to purchase the items they want.

The redevelopment of the building continues by developer CWD and is expected to include West Michigan's first Texas de Brazil Steakhouse.
