ArtPrize SXSW Competition Awarding $15k and Spot at Calder Plaza

This week, ArtPrize announced the new $15k ArtPrize Artist Challenge at SXSW Interactive. The competition is molded after the well-established ArtPrize Pitch Night events and will award $15,000 and a prime spot at ArtPrize 2018 to one winning artist.

ArtPrize will award a $15,000 grant to an artist or artist collaborative at SXSW. Artists are invited to submit their installation ideas by Feb. 19 for the chance to pitch them to win the cash and a chance to install their project on Vandenberg (Calder) Plaza at ArtPrize 10.

Five submissions will be selected to pitch their large-scale installation ideas at a public event held at Michigan House Austin on March 12. The five finalists will have five minutes each to make their case in front of a live audience and a panel of art experts.

The $15k ArtPrize Artists Challenge at SXSW Interactive is another welcome step forward in the tradition of the successful Pitch Night events which have brought strong work to ArtPrize in the past. ArtPrize 9 Pitch Night winners included "Red Dirt Rug." "The Bureau of Personal Belonging" won the ArtPrize 8 Juried Grand Prize after being a Pitch Night winner. "Whispers" was a Pitch Night winner from ArtPrize 7 that also won a juried award. See all of last year's Pitch Night winners.

ArtPrize returns to downtown Grand Rapids from Sep. 19 - Oct. 7, 2018. Venue registration will be open March 5 - April 5. Artist registration will be open from April 16 - June 7.
