Communities throughout the United States, and here in West Michigan, are honoring the men and women who have served in the military for Veteran's Day.

Our news partner, WZZM TV13, tells us the Holland museum is opening a new, permanent Medal of Honor display, paying tribute to the four people from Holland who have received the nation's highest military award. The opening ceremony for the display is at 10:30 Monday morning, at the Holland armory on West 9th street.

A special Veterans Day program will be held at 11 AM at the Causeway Veterans Memorial Park between Muskegon and North Muskegon.

And Muskegon Community College will hold a ceremony at 2 PM this afternoon at the campus on Quarterline road.

And the annual Veterans Day Parade in Grand Rapids begins at 7:30 tonight, starting at Michigan and Division, traveling south on Division to Fulton, and east on Fulton to Veterans Park.

Some local businesses are offering discounts to servicemen and women. At Olive Garden, veterans can get a free meal from a special menu. Applebee's and Chili's also have specials for veterans, as will On the Border and Texas Roadhouse. Tim Hortons will give vets a free donut. Some McDonald's are as well.

Several other local restaurants are offering deals as well and some deals are for specific times. You are recommended to call ahead for deal specifics.
