Adam Levine Kills His Performance of ‘Lost Stars’ at the 2015 Oscars [VIDEO]
Sometimes, it's hard to remember that the Oscars is about more than red carpet dresses and Naomi Watts' frittatas. There's musical performances as well, from musicians some of us love, others of us loathe, and all of us know. This year, we happened to be particularly impressed with Adam Levine's moving performance of "Lost Stars."
Whatever you think of Levine - and nearly all of us have a tweetable opinion - the song is striking. Levine sang "Lost Stars" for the movie Begin Again, a musical-comedy about a struggling singer-songwriter (Keira Knightley) who meets a struggling record executive (Mark Ruffalo) to produce albums all across New York City. While the film met mostly positive critical reviews, it only received one Academy Award nomination - for Best Song.
Standing under a cool, single, light on stage, Levine sang,"God, tell us the reason youth is wasted on the young / It's hunting season and the lambs are on the run / Searching for meaning / But are we all lost stars, trying to light up the dark."
Normally, lyrics involving lost stars can enter pretty dangerous lyrical territory. They're deeply familiar, sometimes uncomfortably so. Still, Levine's rendition of the song introduced a level of emotional dynamism we found totally refreshing. You don't have to be an Adam Levine fan to enjoy a totally Kleenex-worthy performance like this. Check out the music video of the song here.
