Abigail Kopf Released From Hospital, Heading to Rehab Facility in Grand Rapids
14-year-old Kalamazoo shooting victim Abigail Kopf was released from Bronson Children’s Hospital earlier today. She is heading to an inpatient rehabilitation facility in Grand Rapids.
The 14-year-old suffered critical injuries in the February 20, 2016 mass shootings in Kalamazoo. After spending 17 days at Bronson, her condition has steadily improved and she is now moving on to the next stage of recovery at an inpatient rehabilitation facility in Grand Rapids.
“The pace of her progress is exceptional,” says Dr. Aaron Lane-Davies, medical director of Bronson Children’s Hospital.
Lane-Davies explains that with the injuries Abigail suffered after being shot in the head, her signs of improvement are very encouraging. “It will be a long journey ahead,“ Lane-Davies acknowledges, “but she is regaining her functions more quickly than expected for someone with an extensive brain injury.”
