A Grand Rapids Band Played on Jimmy Kimmel Live Tuesday Night
Indie rock fans tuned into Jimmy Kimmel on Tuesday night to see the late night television debut of Waxahatchee, who performed her new song "Lilacs".
Waxahatchee is the musical project of singer/songwriter Katie Crutchfield. Featured in her band Tuesday night were members of the Grand Rapids band Major Murphy, and members of Detroit's Bonny Doon, with whom Crutchfield recorded her new album "Saint Cloud".
From bars and breweries to Rosa Park Circle, we've been able to catch catch Major Murphy performing around the Grand Rapids area over the past five years -- and hopefully we will again soon! Major Murphy is Jacob Bullard, Jacki Warren, Brian Voortman, and Chad Houseman. During the performance on Kimmel, you'll see Jacob on guitar and Jacki on bass.
Major Murphy's new album "Access" is out April 2021, with the new song In the Meantime out now. Crutchfield wrote a forward to to Major Murphy's new record, saying:
Access...is an album born out of being at that crossroads. It’s also, without question, an album to blast at an unruly volume to soundtrack an experience one might have standing at that crossroads.

The official music video for "Lilacs" also features a Grand Rapids native! The dancer is Marlee Grace, who's originally from GR.
