A couple that was just months away from their wedding day were killed in an automobile accident that involved a suspected drunk driver.

According to WOOD, there was an online obituary that was posted for 37-year-old Melissa Nash and Justin Ducham, who died the day before his 40th birthday that read, "We take comfort in knowing that even death could not separate them as they were bonded together by an unbreakable love."

A pickup truck apparently slammed into the couple on Maple Island Road just south of Crystal Lake Road in Holton Township. The accident occurred Saturday around 1 a.m. but after emergency crews arrived, they were not able to save Nash and Ducham.

25-year-old Cody Loomis was identified as the driver of the pickup truck who had just turned 25 the day before. Loomis has since been arrested and is currently in the county jail.

Police say that Loomis' blood alcohol content was way above the legal limit plus he was driving with a suspended license.

This was not Loomis' first time for drinking and driving since he has been convicted of driving under the influence in 2014 and 2017.

If Loomis is convicted on each count of drunken driving it could be a total of 30 years combined for causing death of the two individuals.

The funeral for the Nash and Ducham will be Thursday at Port City Church in Fruitport Township. Instead of flowers the families are asking for donations to be made out in memory of the couple and to help support their two children.
