An 8-year-old is teaching us all a valuable lesson by donating his stuffed animal collection to the Grand Rapids Police Department so they can give the stuffed animals to children during traumatic times.

The Grand Rapids Police Department shared 8-year-old Caiden Dorman's story on Facebook on Tuesday. They named Caiden their "GRPD hero for the day" for his generosity.

The Grand Rapids Police Department has been keeping small stuffed animals in their cruisers for over 10 years. They give the animals to kids they meet in tough situations. They say a stuffed animal "brings comfort and distraction when a child needs it the most."

GRPD is always accepting donations of stuffed animals in like-new condition at their front desk. The animals can be donated any time to the Community Engagement Unit. Stuffed animals must be sanitized and free of exposure to dirt, smoke, or animals. Small stuffed animals are preferred.
