Christmas themed activities are geared up for this weekend. There are Christmas trees, skating, beer, comedy, hockey, basketball, stage and music productions, and more. Plus, don’t forget to support local businesses on Saturday during Small Business Saturday.

    Ring in the holiday season with their most beloved winter exhibition. It's the season of joy! Forget the hustle and bustle and find joy in their winter wonderland - it's an idyllic spot to center your thoughts on the true meaning of the holidays. Excitement surrounds this time of year as the annual Christmas and Holiday Traditions Around the World exhibition brings the glow of nearly 400,000 colorful lights, strolling carolers, visits from Santa, rooftop reindeer and 42 international trees and displays.

    Ice Skating at Rosa Parks Circle

    Officially opens for the season on Friday, November 23rd, 2018 - 3:00 pm (and runs through Sunday, February 24th, 2019 weather permitting)

    Hours: Monday-Saturday 10:00 am-9:45 pm, Sundays 11:00 am-8:45 pm

    Cost: Adults $3.00, Youth $1.00

    The ice is ready for skating at Rosa Parks Circle! Skates are free with your paid admission. Sizes range from youth 8 through men's 15. Skates are available first come, first served. You may bring your own skates. Ice balance aids are available. Shoe bins available and lockers available for 25 cents. There are public restrooms on site at the rink

    Gaslight Village Tree Lighting Ceremony

    Cost: Free

    Join host, Rachel Ruiz of eightWest and WOODD TV 8 for a holiday season kick-off. Mayor Amna Seibold will be on-hand to lead a carol while children can meet Santa Claus and see live reindeer. Light-up wands will be available for children at various shops in the Village. To help keep warm, the East Grand Rapids Community Foundation will once again hand out Hothands Hand Warmers. The tree is officially lit at 7:00 pm.

    During the game it will be the 19th Annual Teddy Bear Toss presented by J&H Family Stores. Fans are encouraged to bring new, store-tagged teddy bears and stuffed animals to throw onto the ice after the Griffins score their first goal. And because it is a Friday night game, there will be $2 Beers and $2 Hot Dogs.

    After college, Dave tried his hand at an open mic night and did a joke about his junior prom date that was a total lie, but got a huge laugh. The response prompted him to go a second time, then a third, and so on. Soon, he started working his way into guest spots, then MC'ing, then featuring, until finally, he bought a booking agent enough lunches that he let Dave headline some of his "B" Rooms. Over the years, Dave has had the good fortune of writing monologue material for both Bill Maher on ABC's "Politically Incorrect" and Jimmy Fallon on "Late Night."

    First observed on November 27, 2010, this day is a counterpart to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which feature big box retail and e-commerce stores respectively. By contrast, Small Business Saturday encourages holiday shoppers to patronize brick and mortar businesses that are small and local. Get out and support those businesses that make their home here in West Michigan.
