For 167 years, the Barry County Fair continues to be a highlight of the summer’s activity for many families. So many families’ summer vacations are focused around the fair with the projects the 4-H and FFA exhibitors have worked hard on the past years.

Recording both as Parliament and Funkadelic, George Clinton revolutionized R&B during the '70s, twisting soul music into funk by adding influences from several late-'60s acid heroes: Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, and Sly Stone. The Parliament/Funkadelic machine ruled black music during the '70s, capturing over 40 R&B hit singles (including three number ones) and recording three platinum albums.

Salsa Night featuring Detroit's Armando Vega kicks off the series presented by the Grand Rapids-Kenty County Convention/Arena Authority's Community Inclusion Group. The event will feature Detroit's Armando Vega, a musician specializing in salsa singing and dancing, as well as a performance from DJ Tony Banks (bachata, salsa, merengue, cumbia, and reggaeton) of Grand Rapids. DeVos Place will also have tequila tastings and food offerings in addition to free salsa lessons during the event. Check out the delicious Caribbean food offerings from El Caribe Food Truck from 8 pm-midnight!

Activities include: Snares to Wares Initiative will be there with information about their conservation initiatives and what they are doing to protect lions in Africa, Draw your pride activity, Lion-themed crafts, Lion conservation information, and Information on big cats around the world. Each daylily flower lasts for just one day, and so does this show. Also, join them for the very first hosta leaf show at Meijer Gardens and be amazed by the range of shapes, sizes, colors, patterns and textures available in hosta foliage. Specimen leaves will be displayed in vases and West Michigan Hosta Society members will be on-hand all weekend to answer questions and discuss why hostas are “America’s #1 Perennial.”

Announcing Jurassic Adventure, the largest most realistic Dinosaur event ever seen in Michigan! There will be a wide variety of fun and educational activities designed to engage all members of
the entire family. Embark on a prehistoric journey from the Jurassic all the way through the Ice Age periods and discover the Dinosaurs & Mammals that ruled the earth for more than 150 million years ago! The main exhibit features over 50 life size ultrarealistic dinosaurs in their natural habitat. Other exhibits include hands on interaction with these enormous Dinosaurs, ride a cute little baby Dinosaur, be courageous and ride a 12 foot animatronic T Rex & Triceratops. Tracey, a friendly young T-Rex greets guests periodically throughout the event and can be found walking and playing with the kids.
