8-year-old Lacey Holsworth lost her battle with cancer just over a week ago.

Princess Lacey touched the lives of many as her friendships and story were shared with millions nationwide.

Thousands gathered to celebrate her life Thursday night in East Lansing.

The story of Lacey's special 2-year friendship with Michigan State University's Adreian Payne got nationwide attention during the NCAA men's basketball tournament this March.

Her story touched many and thousands came out to show their support Thursday night.

WZZM has more about Thursday's event:

Thursday was about celebrating the 8 years she did have.

It was about singing and dancing and bright colors and funny stories. Thursday's event had no known precedent and won't have a duplicate. It was unique, as was the story of Lacey and her smiling courage and relationship with the MSU men's basketball team — a bona fide brother-sister closeness with senior forward Adreian Payne.
