October 18, 2012 Martijn van Wagtendok's "Song of Lift" took second place at ArtPrize 2012. It is still on display on the bottom floor of UICA at 2 West Fulton.
On October 20, there will be a special performance of "Song of Lift" at UICA accompanied by members of the Grand Rapids Symphony.
August 13, 2012 The UICA’s national-award-winning ArtWorks Youth Program unveiled a new mural at 106 South Division! Led by local artist Erwin Erkfitz, twelve of the ArtWorks student participants from area schools designed and painted the mural on a wall at the Avenue for the Arts. This student-created first phase of the mural was unveiled to the public in a ribbon-cutting ceremony along with ArtWorks student artists and representatives from Avenue of the Arts and ArtWorks program sponsor Herman Miller.
April 26, 2011 Staff at the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts were to announce today their new building at 2 W. Fulton St. officially will open with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 25, with a free community open house on July 31.
